Lockdown may have brought your life to a standstill, but that’s no reason to slack off. You can come up with a home workout routine and make sure your health does not suffer during this time. You may not always feel motivated, but it’s important to stay active throughout the day. And the best way to do that is through engaging in HIIT cardio exercises.
High Intensity Interval Training cardio exercises help you achieve your weight loss goals much faster. They help to increase your heart rate but provide ample rest time to get it back to normal. So, if you don’t want to let all your previous weight loss efforts go to waste during the lockdown, here are a few HIIT cardio exercises you can do right at home.
- Infinite Pushups
The name may be daunting, but there’s nothing to worry about. It is actually a fun exercise that you won’t be able to get enough of. Start by doing 10 pushups followed by a rest period of 30 seconds. It is important to complete 10 pushups, no matter how much time it takes. If you are a beginner, it will take a while to get used to, so don’t be too hard on yourself. Once you can do 10 pushups easily, reduce the rest period to 15 seconds to increase the difficulty level.
- Sprint
This is another HIIT cardio exercise that you will enjoy. You can easily do this outside, but since the lockdown has made that impossible, you’ll have to use your treadmill.
Start with a little warm up session to loosen your muscles and then walk at a slow pace before jogging for 3 minutes. Once the time’s up, increase the spread and sprint as fast as you can for 20 seconds. Get the speed down to a low level again and jog for a minute to get your heart rate back to normal. Increase the speed again and do the sprints for 20 seconds.
As a beginner, you must do at least 10 rounds of this exercise to get the sweat going. You can keep increasing the duration of sprints up to 1 minute as you gain more experience.
- Squat and Push
Squats are a great exercise on their own, but combine them with pushups and they produce phenomenal results. The squat and push routine gives you a total body workout, helping you really work those muscles. It fits right in with your home workout routine since you don’t need any equipment.
Start by doing 10 squats followed by 10 pushups. If you are a beginner, take all the time you need, but it’s better to complete them in quick succession. Rest 30 seconds and then repeat the steps.
